Yngwie Malmsteen - Blue

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Feel free to comment on anything you see on this site!

Me, I'm not a fan of Yngwie, but this clip is great for one real big reason. Watch only his right hand and listen to the guitar tone in the different sections. He is flicking that pick-up switch all over the place, switching to the bridge for the sharp bends and back to the neck for the smooth runs. Very cool. Most people sit it on pick-up with the tones and volumes on 10 and leave it like that for the whole night. This is a great lesson on proper pick-up use.

Steampunk Guitars

Here are some interesting custom jobs. The first by Jake von Slatt is his Steampunk Stratocaster

Steampunk Strat

The next comes from Thunder Eagle Guitars.

Steampunk V

Strangly, these both appeal to me. I like the whole steampunk think, and if I ever started a band playing the type of industrial dark wave music I also enjoy I'm sure I would want these guitars.

Gibson GOTW#15 is a beauty

Black Gibson GTI may be crazy, but I am a fan of the original GT's that Gibson released, particularly the black one. Not many people liked the flames but I didn't think it was too bad. Well it turns out Gibson listened to everyone else and not me (a common thing that, it must be said. I still haven't heard back on my application for an endorsement based on my blogging) and released the Les Paul GT in fire engine red.

Fire Engine Red Gibson GT

The feature-laden Les Paul GT blazes in brilliant Fire Engine Red, but without the ghosted flames of the original. Locking metal button Grover tuners, TonePros bridge, and Neutrik locking input jack are just some of the hot features on this road-ready guitar. 490R and 498T humbuckers deliver crushing tone.

FEATURES
Classic ‘50s Les Paul neck
Locking metal button Grover® tuners
Neutrik™ locking cable jack
Dunlop strap locks
Over/under dual truss rod for extra neck reinforcement
Push/pull pots for coil-tapped 490R & 498T humbuckers
Fully independent volume controls
High pass tone filter maintains high frequencies at any volume setting

I got to say, that is a damn sexy guitar.

Make your guitar into a relic

Slightly overdoneIf you want a relic guitar then instead of speading all that money on a new reissue relic, why not do it your self. Ig posted a link to a great site with instructions and guides to relic your beloved instrument. I'm almost tempted to try some of these on my very plane looking Telecaster.

Either that or I'll just start playing more. My main gig guitar when I was playing in Sledge, a black Epi Les Paul Goth, has had the finished buffed to being almost reflective from my right arm movement.

Howlin Wolf

My good friend Cary over at EGR (as if thats not the best guitar site in the world) posted this great video of the one and only Howlin Wolf (featuring the one and only Hubert Sumlin on guitar, thats two one and onlys in one video).

His comments got me thinking about what he said and how much of today's blues is missing that pure emotion. And he is right. I like the blues, but only a few acts really hit me emotionally. Gary Moore is one. Joe Bonamassa is another. After that I'm starting to run low on ideas. Does Keb' Mo' count? I would like to find more people like these. If you have any suggestions for me on who I should check out let me know.
