Instructional videos thought.

I am definitely the sort of person that can pick up how to do almost anything very quickly if you show me. So you would think that I would love instructional guitar DVD’s and be the worlds best guitarist. But alas no, and I’ll explain why. The clip below is from the upcoming Robert Johnson DVD from Note4Note.

I just can’t following it. When each note is played individually I get lost, musically, on where I am up to. For some reason with guitar I work best with the tab and the licks and phrases separated, rather than note for note. I get much more out of a lesson when I’m “why” something is played a certain way. See this clip below of the great Stevie ray Vaughan:

I get much more out of video like that. What about you?

Gibson Les Paul LP-295 Gold Top

Gibson Les Paul 295

The company I love to hate and a hate to love are back with their latest Guitar of the Month and this one is something special. This Gibson Les Paul LP-295 Gold Top is a thing of beauty. Featuring a mahogany body (with maple top) and neck, 50’s rounded neck profile, rosewood fingerboard, 22 frets, Chrome Bigsby bridge, a hand painted ES-295 style pick guard, 57 Classic Plus (bridge) and 57 Classic (neck) humbucker pickups, and the standard Les Paul tone and volume controls, it is a classic styled guitar that makes me want to weep.

Unfortunately I don’t have the spare $3000 to buy one, but if you do, hurry, as there is only a thousand being made.

Secret confessions of a guitarist

Daisy Rock Debutante
Ok. I’m about to own up and lose all respect in the my-dick-is-bigger-than-yours world or male guitarists. I love Daisy Rock guitars. And for a number of reasons. One, they are fairly light which is great because like many people out there I have back problems. Two, they are just so damn pretty. Sure, the butterflies and hearts are dumb, but when they do a classic style guitar they do it well. Take this for example:

Daisy Rock Retro H De Luxe

That is a seriously good looking guitar that I would have no issues playing at all. Is there a guitar that you are ashamed to admit you have a secret desire to own?

Axewar

Axewar
Just ran into this over at GuitarNoize (got to plug another Aussie whenever I can). Axewar may be an ugly site, but it sure does have some awesome guitar pictures. Pit your guitar against some all time classics and see who comes out on top.

With over a 1000 guitar images already uploaded, there is plenty there for comparison. The concept is simple, you are shown two guitars at random, and you click on the one you like best. Easy, even for a drummer.

Check it out here.

Behringer Trio Pedal Train

The packs come with all the cables as well. No word that i can see on pricing, but I’d guess in the vicinity of $120.

I think they are on to something here. Perhaps they should branch ut into other accessory packs as weel. here are a few of my suggestions:

  • Delta Blues : Pill bottle, tobacco and map to the crossroads.
  • Grunge : Fuzz distortion pedal, drug of choice and Courtney Love
  • Emo : Super tight distortion pedal, eyeliner, ticket to Mexico

Any other suggestions?
