Gibson HD 6X Digital Guitar
I'm glad I'm not the only one confused by this thing. The technology behind it is great. The idea of a digital pickup system has so many advantages. Almost unlimited cable length, near zero noise operation, umm.... ok so maybe only two advantages. But it's digital!!! Lets use each string to control a MIDI synth. Oh wait! We convert the analogue signal to digital and then bring it back to analogue again before we can use it. Well there goes that idea! It just doesn't make any sense.
Regardless of that I'm sure someone will find a use for it. The technology was really design for home theatre / audio setups, not guitars, and it should have stayed that way. With so many possibilities with a true digital pickup, Gibson have really dropped the ball. If this was pure digital with MIDI this would have been amazing. Using the guitar to control a guitar synth with some sort of accuracy, have different strings, or even different registers, triggering different samples, the possibilities then truly are endless.
